
James C. McGrath, CFA, CAIA, FRM
President & Chief Investment Officer
As a founder and then Chief Investment Officer of LGL Partners and trusted advisor to billion-dollar families, he helped grow the firm’s U.S. client base to more than $12 billion in assets. He subsequently served as a partner, executive committee member, and Co-CIO for the North American FFT business of Stanhope Capital, a $28 billion global private investment firm.
James began his career as a quantitative analyst on the Global Equity Program Trading desk at Salomon Brothers, joined the Financial Engineering team of UBS’s Global Principal Finance group, developed trading systems and portfolio analytics for Bank of America’s hedge fund clients, and advised on U.S. payments system risk at the Federal Reserve Bank. He developed the alternative investments infrastructure for Brooks Capital Group, a large single family office, and then built the award-winning AlphaBeta investment technology platform for the Forbes Family Trust, experience that guided him as he developed other cutting edge financial technology solutions.
James is an honors graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was designated a Benjamin Franklin Scholar; he received a B.A. in Philosophy and a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School as a Joseph Wharton Scholar. James also holds an MBA in Finance with distinction from the Yale School of Management. He has been awarded the CFA® charter, the CAIA® Charter, and the FRM® certification.
